Serving Questions and Answers

Victory Valley Camp Summer Missionary FAQs

Victory Valley Summer Missionaries raise a network of prayer partners and financial supporters.  If you are new to this idea, which is employed by many global missions agencies, here are some answers to frequently asked questions.

How can I get a Summer Missionary application form?

You may download the form here as a PDF.  You'll need to make several copies of the reference form included in the download.  You may also apply online.  (You can save your application and come back to complete it later.)

Why do I have to raise financial support?

You do not have to raise financial support.  You may choose to serve as a missionary without pay - a volunteer.  However, all paid missionary staff are responsible for developing a team of ministry partners who will provide financial support for the ministry of Victory Valley Camp.  Click here to learn more about how to raise financial support.

How much support do I need to raise?

Victory Valley Camp Summer Missionaries are required to raise at least the minimum amount in the pay range for their position.
 * Leadership Team members may raise $50-$425 per week.
 * Senior Staff (18+ years old) may raise $50-$375 per week.
 * Junior Staff (15-17 years old) may raise $50-$240 per week.

Is raising support Biblical?

Jesus frequently accepted hospitality and instructed His disciples to do the same (Matthew 10:11).  In fact, He sent them out completely dependent upon the care of others (Luke 10).  The Bible says that Jesus and His disciples had many supporters (Luke 8:3).  Paul sometimes received support from churches and individuals, and sometimes he worked with his own hands, making tents to fund his ministry.  Paul wrote to the Corinthians, "The Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel" (I Corinthians 9:14).  John wrote to Gaius saying it was good to support misisonaries because "it was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans" (3 John 5-8).  Paul also hoped to receive monetary help from believers for his mission to Spain (Romans 15:24), and he encouraged churches to help other believers who once worked with him (Romans 16:1-2).

How am I supposed to raise my support?

"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).  Serving as a missionary at Victory Valley Camp gives you the opportunity to grow in faith by trusting God to provide financial resources.  If the Lord is calling you to serve, He will provide.  Many Summer Missionaries begin with family, friends, and churches they have relationships with, but the Lord may surprise you with how He will provide.  Victory Valley offers training and ongoing coaching as needed throughout the process.  Click here for more information about how to begin raising your prayer support team.

What if I don't raise enough support?

Your primary goal is to recruit prayer partners.  If you want to raise financial support, we offer a target range depending on your position (see the target ranges here).  To be paid as a misisonary, your support team must contribute to Victory Valley Camp at least the minimum in that range before August 1.  We offer coaching to help if you're struggling to meet the minimum - just ask for help.

What if I raise more than the maximum in my support range?

Under IRS rules for tax deductibility, the financial support you raise for the ministry of Victory Valley is considered an unrestricted donation to the ministry, not to any particular missionary.  No one will be paid more than the maximum inthe salary range for a particular position.  However, there are no upper limits to the amount of support you may raise for the ministry.  Additional funds are used to help other summer missionaries meet their support needs.

Are contributions from my support team tax deductible for the donors?

Yes, when guidelines are followed properly, but they are only tax deductible because contributions are solicited with the understanding that Victory Valley Camp has complete discretion and control over the use of all donated funds.

What if I don't/can't complete the agreed upon term of service at camp?

If a Summer Missionary is released early due to injury or for any other reason, he/she will receive pay for the actual time served.
